Kaija Keel was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. While raising her children she studied and worked with many local artists: Peggy Nagel, Diana Manseau, Warren King and Rozzzell Sykes. In 1971 she was a founding member of St. Elmo’s Village which is a non-profit organization, geared toward expanding creativity in children as well as adults, through workshops and field trips. Kaija has worked on numerous Los Angeles murals, one at McLaren Hall for Children, Mid-City School, and Brockton Elementary School. Exhibiting in 1996, she joined The Artists Gallery and began studying sculpture with Claire Hanzakos. Kaija was President there during 1998 and 1999, as well as having her first solo show. She has been asked to participate in showing her work in December of 2001, in Florence, Italy, at the Beinnale Internazionale Dell’Arte Contemporanea.
