The artistic path of Paul Velick is best described in two phases. The first covers the 15 year period from 1975 to 1990, as the co-founding half of the art team known as Bob & Bob. During this time both artists expressed an array of innovative work through using disciplines including performance, painting, drawing, sculpture, video, and sound recordings. They exhibited throughout the United States and Europe until several books were published on their art activities. Bob&Bob were included in the 2006 Paris retrospective and publication on Los Angeles Performance.
The second phase includes independent works as a continuum before and after the Bob&Bob collaboration. The on-going and collected works include paintings, drawings, books and college work on various media from 1982 to the present. During this period Mr. Velick has exhibited privately in New York where he lived from 1981 - 1986, and Los Angeles. Exhibitions included showings from his Santa Monica studio as well as non traditional sites throughout Los Angeles. His work centers on the experience of being alive and habituated to our fundamental acts that make up our epoch: city life, driving, neighbors, the common man and nature. Currently he is collaborating in a three man art team known as the Diplomats who focus on live portrait shows with works being done by all three artists working at one easel at the same time. In December of 2006 a studio fire destroyed 70% of all artworks collected. A showing of the surviving works will take place in February at the Robert Berman Gallery in Santa Monica, CA.
