The Peter Blake Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of recent landscape paintings by contemporary California artists Geoffrey Krueger and Peter Alexander. Kruegers large-scale paintings examine the vanishing rural landscapes of California. The artist makes quiet, yet powerful observations of natural beauty lost through the use of warm deep and at times translucent color. Geoffrey Krueger subtlety captures the memories of bean fields, strawberry fields and orange groves.
Where Kruegers approach to painting documents the lost rural landscapes of Southern California, Peter Alexanders work examines the vast urban landscape of Los Angeles. His work focuses on the specificity of light. Does it glow? How bright is it? Alexander asks, How dim is it?" The use of cool blues and vibrant purples create a seductive and immediate energy in these works. His unwavering attention to the soft brilliant night skies of this urban sprawl begins to question the edge of the painting. We begin to feel the balmy air of the night and experience the glowing flickering lights of the city.
Geoffrey Kruegers and Peter Alexanders work will be on display beginning July 1 with an opening reception from 7 9 p.m. The exhibit will run through July 29 at 326 N. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, 949.376.9994.
