Dancing and movement are recurrent themes in several of Jasmine Murrell’s pieces, subjects caught in a trance-like state representing a hypnotic phase of transition, a pre-cursor to a requisite social, cultural and spiritual metamorphosis.
Brooklyn-based artist Jasmine Murrell pulls her inspiration from her neighborhood Afrobeat dance scene. The show is at once colorful and comedic, vibrant and vital, dynamic and damning–an emotional rollercoaster ride worthy of the watchful gaze of a certain Mr. Kuti.
