Jamison Carter, “Cloud" (detail).
On Sunday, May 4th, a solo installation by JAMISON CARTER will open at HAUS with a preview reception for the artist from 4 to 7 p.m.
When Jamison Carter speaks of the network he doesn’t mean the internet, he refers to what the internet arguably signifies: the invisible network of energy that connects all of humanity. His hand-woven wire “nets” give form and substance to that network of collective unconsciousness. Visually permeable, these nets can also be seen as sculptural line drawings, containing and defining the space they surround. In his installation at HAUS, the gallery will be invaded by Carter’s nets. One room will be completely filled, the net prohibiting entry. In another, the nets will invite the viewer’s immersion into the wire structure, while creating a shift in perception as the viewer moves around and through it. It is Carter’s hope for his work that the viewer will experience both its light-hearted aspects while “gaining insight into the connection everyone feels.”
Carter now lives and works in Los Angeles. He received his MFA in sculpture from Cranbrook Academny of Art in Michigan after obtaining his BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has been in group exhibitions in California, Michigan, North Carolina and Italy. This will be Carter's third solo exhibition.
