Hungarian Born Artist, Clara Berta, Unveils A History of Passion in Downtown Los Angeles.

Clara Berta, "Innocence", Mixed Media Monotype, 30" x 22".
Clara Berta exhibits a body of recent mixed media paintings and monoprints at the atelier, Stella Dottir. The show features paintings on canvas, wood, acetate film, and original monotypes. The collection is characterized by bright colors and the liberal application of surface texture. Hung in the bohemian, eclectic atmosphere of Stella Dottir's studio, A History of Passion offers an interesting mix of haute couture and fine art.
Located in the heart of LA's downtown Gallery Row, Stella Dottir is a hybrid retail and gallery space. Clara Berta's exhibition highlights the district's current efforts to embrace the visual arts and present relevant, cross-cultural perspectives that reflect the city's diverse population.
A History of Passion is a diverse body of work that is inspired by Berta's Hungarian heritage and her childhood immigration to the United States. She presents themes of personal history, transformation, and antiquity. The work is a bridge between abstraction and representation. The artist tells stories with recognizable images and words that are set against nonobjective fields.
Clara Berta was born in a Hungarian enclave in Romania. She came to the United States when she was eleven years old. Berta lived in Chicago until relocating to Los Angeles where she attended Antioch University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology before pursuing a full-time career in the fine arts. Berta has continued to implement her innate artistic talents through extensive training in mixed media with Annie Wharton, monotype studies with Lynn Bernay and with Ron Pokrasso at the Riverside Museum and Palm Desert Museum.
Stella Dottir is a haute couture atelier dedicated to supporting the fine arts. It is located at 430 S. Main Street, LA, CA 90013. The two month exhibition will run in conjunction with Stella's current line of custom vintage designs. The opening event will be held on Thursday April 10th, 7-10pm, during the downtown Gallery Row art walk. The reception is free and open to the public.
