Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement

Opening April 6 at LACMA: Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement is the first comprehensive consideration of the legacy Chicano art in almost two decades. The artists—including Christina Fernandez, who documents the “phantom” in the urban landscape; Mario Ybarra Jr., who creates site-specific installations; and the art group Asco—share an interest in what Harry Gamboa Jr. has called “conceptual art in an urban form,” or what the exhibition’s curators call “phantom sightings.”
