Eric Orr, Marin Red Void, oil on canvas with goldleaf-wrapped wood, 29 x 24 inches.

The Robert Berman Gallery is pleased to announce a survey of works by Eric Orr (1939-1998). Associated most closely with the Southern California Light and Space movement of the 1960’s and 70’s, Orr was a unique conceptual artist working with installation, sculpture, and painting. He was largely concerned with primal materials, including lead, gold, bone, ash, blood, water and fire.  Orr strongly believed in the ability of such materials to elicit a visceral response from the viewer.

Orr is an internationally acknowledged artist with work in the collections of the Pompidou Center, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, The Farm in New Zealand, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Guggenheim Museum.

The survey will feature a number of sculptures and paintings from the 70’s to the 90’s, and a documentary by the artist’s daughter, Elizabeth Orr, and his lifelong friend, Kent Hodgetts.

The opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 8th, 2007 from 6:30 – 8:30pm.
