Many people are familiar with Frank Romero’s images of Los Angeles freeways and cityscapes and his Going to the Olympics 1984 freeway mural. As well as being one of LA’s foremost Chicano artists, Frank has another life.

Frank and his wife, artist Sharon Romero live half of the year in the south of France, in a small historic 16th century stone village surrounded by cherry orchards, peach and apricot trees and vineyards. They have an atelier in their home with a view of the Rhone River valley where they paint the landscapes, the bounties of the earth and life in France.  Sharon and Frank enjoy traveling to nearby villages and points of interest to paint in the plein air style. They return each fall and have an exhibition of their latest works.

Frank and Sharon Romero’s new work features lush brushwork and brilliant colors of images of provencal France at harvest.  Frank Romero’s paintings of horses, chili peppers, garlic, flowers and French gangster cars from old movies are typically “Romero” with a new vision.  Sharon Romero’s landscapes capture the constantly changing colors of the fields and skies. It is her challenge to capture each fleeting moment as each season brings new colors and patterns of the landscape.
