1) San Francisco and the Second Wave: The Blair Collection of Bay Area Abstract Expressionism, 1945-1965
The Blair Collection of Bay Area Abstract Expressionism showcases paintings that emerged from the second wave of creative life that marked San Francisco’s painting renaissance following the return of American soldiers from the fronts of World War II. This work was informed by an allusion to and recognition of vastness of California’s elemental physical landscape and interior.
Conversation with the Collector: July 12, 7 pm
2) Lita Albuquerque: Stellar Axis: Antarctica
Lita Albuquerque’s project, Stellar Axis: Antarctica, an exploration of the concept of a unified planet surrounded by and affected by starlight, is also an exploration of man’s relationship to the stars. This project is a culmination of the artist’s decades-long exploration into the relationship between the stellar and the terrestrial through large-scale landscape installations and environmental interventions.
Conversation with the Artist: July 9, 8 pm
3) Joel Pickford: Le Monde Créole
Distilling the themes of Southern Louisiana’s Creole world into visual poems, Joel Pickford has developed an extraordinary series of photographs that brings together the culture, history and landscape of one of America’s most distinct and anomalous regions.
