Dennis McGonagle

Artist, Dennis McGonagle of Whittier, California will conduct a lecture on his art at Soka University, Friday June 23rd, in Founders Hall Art Gallery. This event will begin at 7:00 p.m., and end at 8:30 p.m. It will feature not only the lecture on his art and techniques, but also a slide show of his murals, a question and answer session and the actual fifty painting exhibit called “The Reflected Environment”. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.

Dennis McGonagle has a rich, colorful artistic style that is influenced by the great Mexican muralists Rivera, Siqueiros, and Orozco.  Other influences include American Ashcan School artists, John Sloan and George Bellows as well as the modern urbanscape master, James Doolin   Mr. McGonagle’s paint handling and use of color reflects his admiration for Matisse, Pisarro, Monet, and Van Gogh and Seurat.

The exhibit, which began on May 6 and runs through August 30th, 2006, presents a bounty of fascinating paintings, including twenty-five plein-air (“on location”) urban landscapes and twenty-five innovative “artificial landscapes”, which are actually small oil-on-panel still lives painted in his studio.

This is a family friendly event in a scenic hill top location, and is a perfect opportunity to become re-acquainted with fine art, in a rich scholastic setting. Founders Hall Art Gallery is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Admission is free.
