Los Angeles – Following the success of its inaugural exhibition in May, Black Maria Gallery announced a new show titled “Six Degrees of Separation (from Warhol)”, which opens on June 4.

“After months of preparation, we were delighted with the response of the Los Angeles art community to Black Maria’s opening exhibition,” said gallery proprietor Zara Zeitountsian. “I think the works we exhibited have found resonance among artists and collectors alike.” According to co-curator Sam Saghatelian, the new exhibit, “Six Degrees of Separation (from Warhol),” will build on the gallery’s goal to present non-mainstream and non-traditional art by paying tribute to a spirit of kinship between generations of artists who are linked together through either personal or stylistic bonds.

“The inspiration for the upcoming exhibition came from art journalist and collector Joan Agajanian Quinn,” explained co-curator Sophia Gasparian. “By introducing me to Zara and Sam, Joan Quinn had an instrumental role in the shaping of Black Maria gallery. The fact that she has fostered many such synergies, including her friendship with Andy Warhol, gave us the “six degrees of separation” idea, that we’re all interconnected in significant ways, beyond the personal. Another inspiration was Billy Shire, owner of La Luz de Jesus Gallery, whose support of what was termed “low brow” art in the 80s, spawned a whole movement”.

The “Six Degrees of Separation (from Warhol)” exhibition will feature new and recent works, including video art and music, by 12 artists. They are: Srboohie Abajian, Mari Araki, Gregory Beylerian, Dahlia Elsayed, Andrew Demirjian, Jennifer Quinn and Cliff Dealist (music), Sophia Gasparian, Frieda Gossett, Pamela Henderson, Sam Saghatelian, Silvina Der-Merguerditchian.

Artist Andy Warhol, became famous with the cognoscenti in society, sports, the arts and entertainment fields because of his popular portraiture. An original work by Andy Warhol will be on view at the opening reception, courtesy of Joan Agajanian Quinn Collection, Beverly Hills.

“Six Degrees of Separation (from Warhol)” will kick off on June 4, at 7 PM. The exhibition will remain open until July 4.
