Kim Howard, “Blue Eyes”, 2004,
oil on canvas,  18 x 14 inches.

Sullivan Goss – An American Gallery is pleased to present Kim H. Howard: In Your Face, an exhibition of contemporary, expressionist portraits painted in oil on canvas.
Howard, an artist from Pasadena, relies on her philosophy and passion to paint honestly. Howard notes These paintings aren’t about me. They’re about the people in my paintings.  I want people to take notice of these people.
Howard combines bold colors within close-cropped compositions to force the humanity of her subjects on to center stage. Her technique permits a raw energy to emanate from the surface of the canvas.  The effect of seeing her work is like being suddenly awakened. Life’s hues are more intense and our existence more precious. The artist’s great affection for those people who are often overlooked is obvious.  The characters that populate these paintings are our fellow human beings expressed boldly, joyfully, and always, tenderly.
As Anya Fisher’s niece and a long-time friend, Sullivan Goss enjoys a special relationship with Kim H. Howard. Kim attributes her success to her Aunt, and continues to paint in Anya’s studio.  Sullivan Goss – An American Gallery is pleased to host the continuation of a familial artistic legacy with this new exhibit of work by Kim H. Howard.
