AndrewShire Gallery is pleased to present Shadow-Line Flutter & Radiance, an exhibition of works by Soo Kim, Joseph Lee and Christine Nguyen who reveal how intuitive thought has rematerialized and gained power and movement in contemporary art.  Their exhibition will consist of cut, drawn and painted images that somehow rework notions of representation.

The interchangeable spaces and hand-cut “voids” in Soo Kim’s photographs allow the viewer to move through shapes of people, animals, abstractions or other references.   She takes us beyond the shadow-line of the photograph where characters, reactions and memory refer to the distance of a drifter separated from everything.   Kim’s embodiment of un-location, entropy and eternity floats the unending cycle that erodes and rebuilds meaning.

Each of Joseph Lee’s paintings resides with a companion piece that somehow refers back to the appearance of the painted image.  His diptychs can be taken as pulsations of movement between places that are here and there simultaneously.   By reordering the internal revolving texts that accompany our mental delays, Lee threads the flutter between past and future offering each viewer an opportunity to experience their own occasions of consciousness.

This exhibition also includes Christine Nguyen’s photo-based drawings that chronicle biological and social interactions between imaginary beings that travel in silence while cross-pollinating information and distributing resources within the mysterious coolness of space.   Nguyen’s creatures emanate radiance in what seems to be an infinite expanse of shadow.   Her intuitive drawings speak of ecotopia caught at an intersection of time that crosscuts memory and clairvoyance.
